Creating a calming atmosphere has always been close to my heart. For me, it starts with thoughtful touches, like lighting a candle that instantly transforms the mood of a space or wrapping myself up in cosy interiors. A warm, inviting space isn’t just about how it looks; it’s about how it feels. Lighting a candle is one of those simple, meaningful touches that can instantly make a room feel more tranquil and comforting.
After the first launch of Calm Scented, there was so much I didn’t know. I used to label each candle after an order came in. It seemed like the logical thing to do at the time, but it didn’t take long to realise how much it slowed me down, especially when multiple orders came through. I began pre-labelling my candles, and that small change made such a big difference. I found myself fulfilling orders more quickly and with a lot less stress. It felt like I had finally hit a rhythm.
I’ve also learned that the tiniest details can have the biggest impact. My brother once sent me a photo of one of my paint tin candles he’d opened, and let’s just say it didn’t look cute. That little nudge led me to invest in perforated labels, which, can I say, I wanted to invest in beforehand but didn’t due to the expense. However, I learned quickly that it would be worth the cost. Now, the tins open cleanly, and the presentation feels more professional. It was a simple adjustment, but it completely changed how I approach packaging. At the end of the day, the unboxing experience should feel as special as the product itself.
Occasionally, the tiniest adjustments have the greatest effect.
As much as I love connecting with others online, I’ve realised that creativity sometimes needs a bit of quiet. Stepping back from social media every now and then allows me to focus on what I enjoy most, being in my creative space. At first, I worried about “falling behind,” but I’ve learned to trust that taking a step back is part of the process. When I return to sharing, I feel more inspired and ready to connect with others.
There are moments that have reminded me to pause and celebrate. The day I packed and shipped six candle bundles in one go might sound small to some, but for me, it was a huge milestone. Knowing that six people had chosen my candles to bring light and calm into their homes felt incredible. It was a reminder to stop and appreciate how far I’ve come, even on the days when the journey feels overwhelming.
Running Calm Scented has also strengthened my commitment to sustainability. From the start, I knew I wanted every aspect of my candles to reflect my values, including the packaging. Using natural and non-toxic ingredients, biodegradable packing peanuts, recyclable boxes, and eco-friendly materials was non-negotiable. Every time I pack an order, I feel a sense of relief knowing I’m staying true to the bigger picture of building a thoughtful and responsible brand. There is so much I still need to accomplish in this area, but I believe we’ve got off to a good start.
Each candle I create is more than just a product; it’s an extension of my journey and my passion for crafting spaces where people can feel at ease. Whether it’s through my candles or my love for interior design, my goal is always the same: to help create a warm, calming atmosphere where you can truly relax.
